Overview

Floorcovering installers install, replace and repair a variety of floorcoverings. They work with cushion, carpeting, vinyl, resilient tile, sheet flooring and seasonal carpet. In some jurisdictions, floorcovering installers may also install and repair pre-finished wood, unfinished wood, engineered wood, laminate and artificial turf.

Skills & Abilities

People who enjoy working in this trade tend to prefer work that involves variety, creativity, and recognition for their skills. To be successful in the trade drywall finishers need:

  • The skills to read, write and communicate verbally
  • Good background in trade math
  • Manual dexterity
  • The ability to lift up to 25 kilograms
  • A desire to do a precise and thorough job
  • Computer skills are an asset

Apprenticeship

  • Alberta: apprenticeship level training at NAIT (Edmonton) or SAIT (Calgary)
  • Manitoba & Saskatchewan: do not offer
