Overview
Floorcovering installers install, replace and repair a variety of floorcoverings. They work with cushion, carpeting, vinyl, resilient tile, sheet flooring and seasonal carpet. In some jurisdictions, floorcovering installers may also install and repair pre-finished wood, unfinished wood, engineered wood, laminate and artificial turf.
Skills & Abilities
People who enjoy working in this trade tend to prefer work that involves variety, creativity, and recognition for their skills. To be successful in the trade drywall finishers need:
- The skills to read, write and communicate verbally
- Good background in trade math
- Manual dexterity
- The ability to lift up to 25 kilograms
- A desire to do a precise and thorough job
- Computer skills are an asset
Apprenticeship
- Alberta: apprenticeship level training at NAIT (Edmonton) or SAIT (Calgary)
- Manitoba & Saskatchewan: do not offer
