A Historic day for the BTA

Yesterday was truly a historical day for the Building Trades of Alberta leadership as they hosted a meeting at IBEW Local 424 with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Alberta Premier Rachel Notley, Federal Minister of Infrastructure and Communities Amarjeet Sohi and Alberta MP Randy Boissonnault. A number of issues were discussed over the course of the hour long meeting which included topics such as expedited EI reform, infrastructure spending, the Trans Pacific Partnership, pipelines and access to markets.

The majority of time was spent discussing how we can work together to create jobs in the current economic climate and strategizing around opportunities for apprentices to complete their programs. The unveiling of the Petrochemical Diversification Program by the Provincial Government on Monday and the intent of the Federal Government to expedite infrastructure spending were some of the positive steps that were identified.

There was a commitment between the parties (BTA, Federal government and Provincial Government) to ensure there was open communication, dialogue, inclusion and collaboration on these issues in the coming weeks, months and years ahead.
