Other IUPAT DC 17’s in-house supervisor training has been developed by the Finishing Trades Institute &/or Labor Management Cooperative Initiative. FTI is the international training arm of the IUPAT. The Painters and Allied Trades Labor Management Cooperation Initiative (LMCI) is an organization, jointly administered by the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades (IUPAT) and its employers, with the mission to grow the market share of the union construction companies and workforce.
Description: Recently revised, STP is a 2 ½ day lecture / workshop training program for foremen and supervisors. Ideally, it consists of two [2] instructors, one from Labour, the other from Management. FTI Labour STP instructors come from across North America (e.g., Chris Hooter, IUPAT DC 17 DOT is an FTI instructor for STP). Management Instructors are similarly recruited from North American IUPAT signatory contractors; to avoid conflicts of interest, management instructors are assigned in areas outside of their usual company territories. In this way, both labour and management perspectives are presented to attendees.
Minimum Class Size: no hard and fast rule, but ten or more is preferred.
Cost: no cost to members or signatory contractors
For more information: contact IUPAT DC 17 Director of Training, Chris Hooter, 204.943.2497 or chrishooter@dc17.ca.
Description: LMCI PM is a two [2] day lecture / workshop with ~14 hours of on-line prep materials. To get the most out of the classroom lectures and workshops, one should complete the on-line beforehand.
Instructor: Dennis Doran of LMCI
Cost: No costs to signatory contractors
Attendees: no hard and fast rules on attendees; a signatory contractor can send whomever they want; historically, LMCI gets an ~equal mix of existing office PMs/Estimators, more seasoned tradesmen in / moving up to supervision, and existing / future company owners
Minimum #: at least 10
